These Astrocytes are cryopreserved for convenience, they are ready to use and assay ready within 48 hrsOnce thawed, Axol's Astrocytes display all indicative markers and will respond to glutamate stimulation, a key functional characteristic within 48-60hrs. They also express markers showing that Axol's Human iPSC-Derived Astrocytes are physiologically representative of human primary astrocytes.

These are derived from integration-free, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) under fully defined growth conditions using a completely reproducible process to enable researchers to gain further insight into the mechanisms that govern CNS development, disease onset and drug response.

Astrocyte dysfunction has been implicated in a number of neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, autism, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Rett syndrome and schizophrenia.

Axol’s Human iPSC-derived Astrocytes offer a convenient and physiologically-relevant tool to study these cells as an isolated population or within co-culture and multiple culture populations with other neuronal cells for complex analysis of the central nervous system (CNS).

Axol's Human iPSC-Derived Astrocytes express prototypical phenotype markers such as glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), S100bAQP4ALDHL1L and EAAT1.

These Astrocytes have also been further validated where they display other key biomarkers including VimentinKir4.1 (potassium channel) and CD44.


Axol' Blocking reagent and diluent is a ready-to-use solution designed to be used as an antibody diluent and a blocking reagent to stabilize diluted antibody solutions and diminish background due to non-specific binding in immunohistochemical applications. Especially convenient in multiplex IHC applications where antibodies from several different species are used.

Contains no animal-derived proteins and can be used as an alternative to sera, BSA, casein or non-fat dry milk. 


Axol' Antifade Mounting Medium prevents rapid photobleaching of fluorescent proteins and dyes. It is compatible with a wide array of fluorochromes, enzymatic substrates, and fluorescent proteins, including many of the fluorophores used in super resolution methods like STORM, STED, and 3D-SIMM imaging. 


Axol' Barrier Pen provides a heat-stable, water-repellent barrier that keeps reagents localized on tissue specimens during immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, immunofluorescence, and in situ hybridization procedures and prevents mixing of reagents when multiple sections are mounted on the same slide. Stable for use with buffers with and without detergent (e.g. Tween 20 or Triton X-100, etc.). Insoluble in alcohol and acetone but is completely removed by all commonly used xylene and xylene substitute clearing agents. The barrier is compatible with enzyme or fluorescence-based detection systems. The Pen is environmentally friendly.

Axol' Tissue Section Adhesive is designed to significantly increase the retention of both frozen and paraffin-embedded tissue sections and cell preparations on glass slides and coverslips. Tissue sections will remain attached even when subjected to the most extreme conditions, such as high temperature antigen unmasking solution and in situ hybridization.

Axol's Antifade Mounting Medium with DAPI prevents rapid photobleaching of fluorescent proteins and dyes. It is compatible with a wide array of fluorochromes, enzymatic substrates, and fluorescent proteins, including many of the fluorophores used in super resolution methods like STORM, STED, and 3D-SIMM imaging. When bound to DNA, DAPI (4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole) produces a blue fluorescence with excitation at 360 nm and emission at 460 nm. This enables visualisation of nuclei in cells.
