Laboratory Manufacturing Manager

Location: Edinburgh, UK

The post holder will be a highly motivated and experienced cell culture specialist supporting the generation and quality testing, inventory of our current products and the development of future products. The role is mainly laboratory based. The role will take on the responsibility for leading and motivating their direct reports to ensure safe, cost efficient and smooth execution of the manufacturing master production schedule. The role is a key member of the operations team requiring to demonstrate excellent staff management skills combined with the ability to forward plan, assimilate scientific/technical knowledge and drive a Quality/Continuous Improvement/Right First Time culture. The incumbent will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in ISO or cGMP commercial laboratories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing direct reports to ensure a wide range of manufacturing functional cells and stem cells from Ispc cells and associated media products through preparation, scheduling, resource planning, execution and batch record review to ensure batches are manufactured correctly and released on time in accordance with the manufacturing master production schedule and customer expectations
  • Ensuring that the department is working to current ISO 9001 (2015) standards, in terms of SOP’s, manufacturing batch records and any required traceability, taking responsibility for all Quality Documentation relating to technical transfer and manufacturing of products and services using Q -Pulse QMS
  • Generating KPI’s for the manufacturing department to measure performance and aid continuous improvement ethos
  • Be able to develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent and compliant application of policies and programs throughout the laboratory.
  • Lead problem solving and root cause analysis sessions, as necessary
  • Organise and delegate general lab/manufacturing duties (e.g., production, inventory of supplies, waste disposal, safety measures)
  • Training of current and new staff – maintaining departmental training matrix
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to staff and being proactive towards inadequate performance following company polices and appraisal system
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards (company policies, rules and regulations)
  • Providing technical support to clients /customers if required
  • Inventory Management, including planning and purchasing of materials/ laboratory supplies to maintain constant production within budget and in specified timeframes working with Supply chain / Inventory colleagues

Required Skills and Experience

  • The successful candidate will hold a postgraduate degree in molecular or cell biology (PhD level) and have significant expertise in mammalian cell culture
  • The candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills. English as a native language (preferred)
  • Self-motivated, organized with excellent independent troubleshooting ability
  • Have a working knowledge of ISO 9001 and / or ISO 13485 Quality Management systems
  • Prior experience with gene editing or hPSC differentiation technologies would be desirable
  • Additionally, the candidate should be efficient, proficient, and extremely well-organised (excellent time management is imperative) as well as comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment

Inside Sales and Customer Experience Specialist – United States (Remote)

Location: Edinburgh, UK

Axol is seeing significant growth and investment into the Customer Experience (Cx). The Axol Inside Sales & Cx Specialist is part of the Commercial Team and you will work alongside the Technical Account Managers. You will be responsible for both the management of accounts and business opportunities in the territory, but also providing daily customer service and technical support via email, phone and virtual meetings. Above all else, you must love to delight the customer!

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive growth of the business by promoting and discussing Axol’s products and services
  • Qualify and develop leads from marketing
  • Filter incoming inquiries
  • Process incoming orders
  • Issue quotes and assist in converting these to orders
  • Ensure our CRM system is kept up to date with customer details
  • Assist in the preparation of sales reporting
  • Serve as the main point of contact for customers
  • Attending meetings and tradeshows when required

Required Skills and Experience

  • Excellent understanding of the Life Science market
  • Experienced in customer services but wanting to move into a sales role
  • 3-4 years customer services experience within the life science industry
  • BSc in a life science discipline

Quality Control Scientist

Location: Edinburgh, UK

Minimum degree qualified in Biotechnology and reporting to the Quality Manager, with a proven track record as a successful Quality Control Scientist, you will be responsible for supporting the day to day running and continual development of a well-equipped modern laboratory facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake and manage all laboratory-based QC activities within a dynamic, fast-paced laboratory environment
  • Production of the company / site QC schedule detailing timeframes and plans for the QC work based on production, service and R&D plans
  • Support the Senior Quality Control Scientist & Quality Manager in ensuring all QC activities meet company, product and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure all QC activities meet relevant Standard Operating Procedures
  • Work with the Senior Quality Control Scientist & Quality Manager in design and development of Standard Operating Procedures for on-going product and process development
  • Interpret QC data, prepare Certificates of Analysis and all associated QC documentation
  • Provide support to relevant stakeholder groups to ensure all QC systems processes and procedures meet New Product Introduction, Product and Process Change
  • Undertake and document all laboratory work accurately to ensure process repeatability
  • Maintain ISO9001 quality management systems and assist the Senior Quality Control Scientist & Quality Manager in delivering the QMS infrastructure to achieve ISO13485 certification
  • Undertake continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory and support associated companywide activities
  • Travel to and provide support for Cambridge site leadership and Quality Assurance team as required

Required Skills and Experience

  • A highly analytical and passionate Quality Control Scientist, proven experience leading all laboratory activities within a dynamic commercial laboratory environment
  • Management and control of all QC activities within a Master Cell Bank and Working Cell Bank environment utilising aseptic cell culture techniques, sterility checking and testing
  • Evidential experience in DNA and Plant Extraction, PCR and qPCR using SNP Genotyping
  • Demonstrable success in developing and managing Standard Operating Procedures
  • Excellent judgment and solid decision-making skills with an inherent ability to work under deadline pressures

Quality Manager

Location: Edinburgh, UK

A passionate and inspirational leader, you will be accountable and responsible for the day to day running and continual development of the quality team, systems, processes and procedures and be focused on end-to-end ownership of company quality activities.

Reporting to the COO, with a proven track record as a successful Quality Manager within a Life Sciences environment, you will be autonomously responsible for driving a true Quality Assurance culture across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading all site-wide quality activities and ensuring product quality meets company, industry and regulatory requirements
  • Engendering a quality culture across all operational activities
  • Lead, mentor and develop the site engineering and scientific quality team
  • Development and roll-out of company quality strategy, systems and procedures to ensure continuous process improvement and dissemination of good practice
  • Ensure Axol Bioscience product lifecycle activities meet global market regulatory requirements
  • Maintain the current Quality system, ISO 9001, and lead in delivering the QMS infrastructure to achieve ISO13485 certification
  • Ensure that product change and design control processes are followed throughout the cycle of R&D, technical transfer, manufacturing and post-market release
  • Monitoring and analysis of quality KPI’s, deviations, non-conforming product, complaints, change management and CAPA processes to identify trends through statistical analysis
  • Lead the organization’s quality risk management and mitigation strategy
  • Lead introduction of “Q Pulse” electronic quality management system
  • Travel to and provide support for Cambridge site leadership team as required

Required Skills and Experience

  • This key leadership position is accountable for improving product and process quality and particularly suited to a Quality Manager with a proven track record of embedding change and encouraging continuous improvement
  • You will be an inspirational, collaborative leader who will be able to demonstrate previous experience in leading and managing all elements of the company quality function within a Life Sciences environment - previous experience within a cell culture development environment a distinct advantage
  • A natural problem solver that can identify short term mitigation and propose options for longer term resolution
  • You will have implemented and developed an ISO Quality system, ideally ISO13485, and led and managed all external audits and regulatory agency inspections
  • You will mentor and provide guidance to all internal and external stakeholders on implementing and maintaining product compliance and drive best practice processes
  • You will possess excellent judgment and solid decision-making skills with an inherent ability to work under deadline pressures
